About the role
Chime’s Instant Loans team builds products that give members upfront liquidity for larger, specific needs, with clear, predictable repayment that helps them build credit responsibly. As an engineer on the team, you’ll work across the stack to build and scale services that offer a few hundred to a few thousand dollars over terms from months to years, making fair credit accessible to people who are often denied by traditional banks. This role is ideal for engineers who want to move quickly, collaborate closely with product, design, data, and risk, and care deeply about expanding financial access and stability for millions of members.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $133,000 and up to $184,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
Design, develop, test, refactor and scale backend implementations of new and existing consumer product features
Work on member-facing mobile app, including designing and building strong, resilient APIs that power key member experiences.
Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand member pain points and come up with solutions
Develop thoroughly tested code and conduct quality assurance on all new code alongside our QA team
Proactively identify opportunities for improving the reliability and scalability of our systems
Engineers are required to participate in on-call rotation. Being on call may include responding to incidents outside of regular working hours when necessary.
To thrive in this role, you have
3+ years developing software in a production environment at scale
Proven experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks
Comfort working across the stack and an eagerness to learn new technologies
Experience designing APIs, working with transactional databases and caching systems
A product mindset with a strong bias toward experimentation, iteration, and measuring impact
Exposure to large-scale architecture patterns and an appreciation for clean, maintainable code
